What is cancer?
Cancer is where abnormal cells multiply in an uncontrolled way, invading the surrounding healthy tissue. There are over 200 types of cancer, each with varying symptoms, treatments and side effects. One out of two people will develop some form of cancer in their lifetime, and half of all diagnosed cancers are in people over the age of 70.Sometimes cancer will spread from one area of the body to another, in a process called metastasis. When this happens, the metastatic cancer is still treatable, but many types are incurable. Those undergoing long term treatment for cancer may wish to learn more about options for palliative care at home.
